The City of Newcastle II
Well, like what Liza's fellow architecture roommate said - "Newcastle isn't even a proper city"
So from the words of a newcastleian, newcastle sucks, but it's good for studying.
Their reasons for choosing Newcastle is however very much valid.
One of the best architecture school, but also one of the cheapest when it comes to school fees and cost of living.
Being 2hrs away from Sydney does help abit I guess as a plus point, weekend shopping?
Just cooked mushroom omellete as part of my contribution to the potpurri called dinner today.
Liza's cooking Thai Red Chicken curry, looks delicious! Should take quite awhile though, shalll blog on what happened today so far meanwhile.
Errm...started off with me waking up around 11am.
Had more of the Krispy Kreme doughnuts for Breakie. Mmmmm...doughnuts.
We then set off around noon to her "bushland" university. Went to the library, managed to blog a little there as you can see from my previous posting, then went to the cafeteria, part of which had burned down due to a fire. Had some beef and vegetable caserole that cost me $4.60. Didn't taste any better than the food from my uni, but it sure was much much cheaper though! UQ CATERING RIPS ITS STUDENTS OFF !!
We visited the architecture studio, which thankfully resembles something industrialy mordern, as opposed to the mostly draconian drag style theme that the rest of the campus was in.
Next stop was the city (erm...yeah "city"). We stopped around the new Crowne Hotel to visit the visitor's centre and got lots more maps including some for Hunter's Valley. Attempted to mark the hotel as my territory, but couldn't, for the love of God, find a "public" toilet in the hotel. Even tried the pool! The hotel is situated on this stretch of land called Honeysuckle, which they are currently trying to develop into something like the promanade we hadve(or used to have?) at our WTC. It overlooks the habour, which is the life of Newcastle, since they are an industrial city, and their port is one of their most important asset. They even have Strathton Island across from the promanade, except that it's used for mining or something, insted of a tourist whorehouse called Sentosa that we have. The only thing that's different is the views!! Open uncluttered skyline, fresh sea breeze, nice cold and dry weather all so comfortable to walk around in.
Took a drive down Memorial Drive past Newcastle's famous Noddy Beach. It looked really beautiful. Even better than Surfer's Paradise beach actually. The drive along the coast was even better than Gold Coast's and of course, less congested.
Eventually Reached the top of the cliff, and had wonderful paranomic view of the sea from Strzeleck Lookout.
The curry was nice, we finished every bit of it, and well worth the cramps and visits to the toilet later. Sigh, my LI is so bad it seems, that one tabled of Lacteeze isn't enuff for something as strong as curry!
I guess after seeing Newcastle, I have to admit that I'm not in the most boring place in Australia afterall =P
