The Labs are Closed!
It took me some time, but I managed to figure out the cryptic table and discern that the labs were not open today. Saved me a trip down to campus it did. Oh well...
Anywho, just finished watching probably the worst show ever made, Napolean Dynamite.
Just 20 minutes into the show, I felt like vomitting and kept wishing for the show to end or for all life on earth to disinigrate in one thermo-nuclear explosion(whicever comes first).
This however, might be the reason why people have actually paid to watch this, as written in it's IMDB entry was -
What was Fox thinking?! Watever possessed me to torture myself and not end the misery right there and then? Well, only because I had spent part of my 24 Gb quota bootlegging it and felt that I somehow had to give the film a chance continued to glue my eyes open in hope of receving an epiphany somehow or another.
Which is why, here I am now, in front of the computer, blasting away Rhapsodie Sur un theme de Paganini with the bass turned way way up. In a hope that his soothing melodies would unravel the strands and synapses of my brain that hold the memories of the horrible film. Oh yeah, and also, die neighbours, die!
Well actually I'm doing this only because while I was washing the dishes, I smiled inadvertently at this woman on one of the balconies of the hotel. The woman smiled back at me, and this totally indecorous flirtatious exchange continued the two, three times I looked up from the sink. The woman wasn't pretty, and she was in some sort of 60s era batik pajamas.
What I was thinking?! I blame it on the adverse effect one experiences after watching 82 mins of totally boring, inane out-of-this-world acting by hideous characters from the bottomless pits of hell kinda films.
They really should shoot the director or at least burn all copies of the film NOW.
On (literally) another note, Rachmaninov sounds so much better when you're blasting it with the bass turned all the way up!

Due to the film's surprise success at festivals and at the major city box offices, Fox Searchlight is going to re-release the film with nationwide distribution and add a 5 minute epilogue at the end of the film. This epilogue, which was filmed after the initial theatrical run, apparently features a surprise "wedding scene". And cost about half of what the entire feature cost to make.

When did hell freeze over?
Today's the last day of school, no more lectures, labs and tutorials.
No more cursing and swearing at the lousy security system where there's a 30 secs lag before you're BEEPED into the honours labs
No more speed walking up (yes UP!!) to school battling pesky flies and a returning stress fracture along the way.
The academic session (sans 3 exams, 2 assignments of course.....) ended with quite a good lecture, my pet subject this semester - COMP3511 Computer Graphics. We went through 3D graphics hardware today, Nvidia vs ATI, old school days of retro gaming with Alley Cat, Sierra's Leisure Suit Larry and Thexder.
He mentioned how archaic the olden days were with the little "turbo" button which actually was a "make-computer-slower-so-games-can-be-played" and how the turbo button "survived" for a few years even though it didn't do nuts anymore. How games last time were tied to the clock speed of the computer 8mhz for for the 8088 and the "turbo" 16mhz for your 80286.
It's a really interesting course which taught me the maths behind all the graphics stuff like textures, anti-aliasing, polygon rendering, lighting...etc that we just knew were there as things that "need to be" on the specs sheet but didn't actually know what they actually are....well at least not actually knowing the formula for calculating specular reflections on a scene.
How crazy it is now with graphics cards or GPU these days having a transisitor count larger than the CPU itself now. But it's necessary because in order to have a 8000+Megapixel count, all these algorithms need to be hard coded into the GPU itself.
Well, all I need to do now is mug, mug, mug and try to relearn secondary school A-maths stuff of solving simultanaenous equations and doing calculus stuff all over again.....bah!

Most Horrendous Remake Award
Boy oh boy was it bad....things only got even worse when the feeling of dejavu leapt in. Hmm...where have I seen all these before? Souped up taxi, your nutsy fumbling ala Pink Panther detective and your typical french, pardonnez-moi "american" in this case, taxi driver from hell ?
Why Luc Besson's Taxi(1998) of course. It's like that when my computer graphics lecturer announced that he caught students plagrising on the recent assignment, he wasn't however shocked that they copied, but that they blatantly copied chunks of code without even attempting to cover their tracks by renaming variables or tweaking the algorithms at all.
Same situation here, Taxi(2004) is an obvious hollywood rehash of the still far far better original. The twist? All the characters gone thru the gender bender....
Together now people "Oooooh, how original!"

Daniel Morales (played by Samy Naceri), is in this remake, Belle, a NYC taxi driver played by Queen Latifah. Though Queen Latifah certainly brings certain comedic credentials into the film, it is otherwise a mostly a been-there-done-that kinda thing.
Give this one a miss guys, I'm so happy mine's boot legged!
