The Broadbanded Wagon

Free of my limited downloads shackles in Brisbane and wired up to the l33t iinet's blink 512+ plan (512Kbps/128Kbps), I went out to flex my broadened arms with Azureus and Shareaza.

P2P was running fine, was getting decent downloads and all. But strangely enough, web browsing suffered. I'd have to refresh the pages multiple time before they would load if the P2Ps were running. Was I over-taxing my connection?

Checked the firewall settings, checked the router, checked the modem. Everything looked fine. Could it be my antiquated T40? Looked through all my settings but they were already at very conservative settings.

Hmmm....

Let's try the logs! Sure enough, WinXP's TCP/IP was complaining...

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Tcpip
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4226
Date: 14/9/2004
Time: 2:08:24 AM
User: N/A
Computer: CYBERTWO
Description:
TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

Googling "4226" returned with some very interesting results. Seems like SP2 limits your number of concurrent TCP connections to just 10 as compared to pre-SP2's settings of ....erm.... well, there weren't any restrictions pre-SP2.

Thankfully, some very efficient and clever people already came up with a patch for it. I patched my TCP/IP and increased SP2's restriction tenfold to 100 concurrent connections and things were ay-ok. Till today.....

Things must have gone abit nuts with me downloading Gil Shaham stuff, Lucasart Archives Adventure Collection 1.1 for PC, ST:Enterprise epis amongst the long list.

Gotta try upping to 200 now! =P
